Step Beyond the Ordinary

Our History

Beneath the quiet streets of Old Town Clovis, a hidden world hums with candlelight, whispered laughter, and the scent of rebellion. The Farmer & The Bootlegger isn’t just a bar—it’s a story brought to life, where every glass raised honors the daring souls who built it.

About The Farmer and the Bootlegger

The Story Beneath the Surface

During Prohibition, when the nation went dry, Finn Pollasky—a war veteran and widowed father—chased the shimmer of something lost. By day, he worked the land; by night, he wrestled with ghosts—until Barbara von Lichtenfeld stepped off the train. A daring European with a scandalous laugh and a gift for turning prohibition into profit, she saw in Finn a kindred spirit. In Clovis—the wettest county in California—they built a refuge for dreamers and the quietly defiant, where crafted cocktails told stories and every night promised a touch of magic.

A Legacy Carved in Stone and Light

Lion heads guard the walls, peacock lamps shimmer like jewels, and every corner glows with Barbara’s old‑world opulence and Finn’s grounded grit. Their unlikely partnership gave birth to a speakeasy that celebrates both rebellion and refinement—a meeting of soil and silk, whiskey and wonder.

A place where neighbors became family, where stories were shared as freely as the spirits, and where hope found its home in the warmth of community.

Crafted Cocktails. Unforgettable Nights.

In the heart of Old Town Clovis, where time seems to slow and the night hums with quiet intrigue, a refuge awaits those who crave more than just a drink. Crafted cocktails shimmer beneath the low light—Prohibition‑era classics reborn beside modern creations, each one a story whispered through smoke and glass. Behind every pour, our bartenders carry on a legacy of connection and charm, turning date nights into reveries and conversations into something almost cinematic. Hidden passages, unforgettable nights—this is where Clovis comes to lose itself and, somehow, be found again.
